A conscientious man, Muslim or otherwise, would never abuse his wife and then resort to the scripture to justify his actions. But a fundamentalist caveman would gloriously beat his wife whenever he likes and shamelessly quote from Quran to rationalize his monstrosity.

About This Quote

A Muslim man who is not a fundamentalist or caveman would never resort to violence against his wife. However, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t beat her up if he so desired. The words of Aisha (ra) illustrate this point nicely. She was quoted by the Prophet (saw) as saying, “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day will not hurt me, but I must fear Allah regarding him.” A man who believes in Allah would never harm his wife.

God tells us to fear Him in this passage, not because He can’t be trusted, but because He will punish us if we hurt our wives. If you believe that women are created for men then you should believe that men are created for God and that they must seek His pleasure by serving Him with their actions whether they are good or evil.
